STEP 1
Take a walk outside with your child to collect an assortment of pinecones. Talk with your child about the different kinds of pinecones you find and the kinds of trees they come from. If pinecones arent readily available, visit your local craft store.STEP 2
Place newspapers on the surface where youll be making your bird feeders.STEP 3
Tie a piece of string around the top of each pinecone.STEP 4
Using a Popsicle stick or putty knife, spread peanut butter all over each pinecone. Make sure to cover the surface completely.STEP 5
Spread birdseed on top of the newspapers. Roll each pinecone in the birdseed until its completely coated and no peanut butter is visible.STEP 6
You or another adult can now hang the pinecones from tree branches in your yard or wherever you can easily view the colorful birds that come to feed.STEP 7
Every day, watch your birdfeeder. Keep a record of the kinds of birds that visit.MATERIALS:
Pinecones (usually available at craft stores.)
1/4-cup peanut butter for each pinecone
2 cups of Ace Brand bird seed (mixed variety) for each
pinecone
String, wire or yarn cut into 4-foot strips
Old newspapers to spread out over work area
TOOLS:
Popsicle sticks, putty knife or other utensil to spread
peanut butter
